Welcome to KITE HEAVEN. If you have heard Brazil is good for kiting, you have heard right. This place was designed for kiters. I wished we’d had planned for more time to explore Brazil as we hardly scratched the surface.
Brazil is another one of those countries that you always hear about
at as a kitesurfer, and I couldn’t wait to get to the country and see
what all the fuss was about. When I think of Brazil, I think - beaches, babes
in bikinis and beer. My expectations were matched on all fronts, then, add
the wind factor and Brazil may well be paradise
The one drawback of Brazil is they speak Portuguese. DAMN IT!! I could not believe that I spent eight months learning Spanish so that I could connect with the locals, only to find out I am back to square one in Brazil. They do not speak a lot of English here, so it can be frustrating at times. We managed to be fairly well understood though as there are some similarities between Spanish and Portuguese.
Brazil is a seriously big country, and in fact has the eighth biggest economy in the world. Some parts are pretty seedy and dangerous, but in general the country is amazing. These guys have got something right in terms of their way of life.
This country is probably the most geared towards kiting in terms of all the countries I saw along the way. In Cumbuco and Jericoaocoara, there were so many kiting schools I didn’t even manage to see all of them. I did manage to do an equipment overhaul after my experiences in Peru and make sure my stuff was ship shape again. Windguru has most of the places listed, but as always, can be quite inaccurate a lot of the time.
